In 2024, IMPACT Initiatives reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the climate and environmental crises by operationalising the principles of the Climate and Environment Charter for Humanitarian Organisations (see IMPACT’s Commitments for 2024). As signatories to the Charter, we recognised the urgent need to both respond to the growing humanitarian impacts of climate change and environmental degradation, and to reduce the environmental footprint of our own operations.

IMPACT’s Reporting on the Charter Commitments for 2024 outlines the progress made against our 2024 organisational commitments, which were designed to translate the Charter’s high-level goals into concrete, measurable actions across our research, operations, and advocacy.

These commitments focused on three strategic pillars:

  • Strengthening our technical expertise and research capacity to better understand and address climate and environmental risks in humanitarian contexts;
  • Minimising the environmental impact of our operations, in line with global sustainability standards;
  • Using our evidence and influence to advocate for more ambitious climate action and environmental protection across the humanitarian sector.

Throughout 2024, IMPACT has worked to mainstream climate and disaster risk analysis across its research portfolio, enhance internal capacity, and contribute to sector-wide dialogue and coordination. This report presents key performance indicators (KPIs), baseline data, and progress updates across each area of commitment, highlighting both achievements and areas for continued improvement.

As we look ahead to 2025, this reporting exercise not only serves as a reflection of our progress but also as a foundation for setting more ambitious and targeted goals in the year to come. It is through sustained, evidence-based, and collaborative action that we can contribute meaningfully to a more climate-resilient and environmentally responsible humanitarian response.
