In May 2025 at the European Humanitarian Forum in Brussels, DG ECHO and the Climate and Environment Charter co-organized a workshop on “Economics of Environmental and Climate Action in the Face of Humanitarian Impacts of Climate Change”. Following the funding gap and discussions around the humanitarian reset which will prioritise life-saving needs, it was widely agreed by Charter Signatories, Donors and other organizations attending the workshop that alternative financing is essential if organizations are to continue to deliver environmental and climate action in the humanitarian sector.

This webinar will:
1. Introduce Charter Signatories to alternative and innovative funding models for climate and environmental action in humanitarian settings, beyond traditional public donor mechanisms.
2. Offer practical guidance on how non-traditional financing works, what such innovative funding partners look for, and support organizations to identify entry points and opportunities to access alternative funding.
3. Showcase emerging examples and proof-of-concept initiatives, such as Energy Peace Partners’ peace-renewable energy credits (P-RECs)
4. Create space for exchange and reflection to assess levels of engagement with alternative funding and identify shared barriers and learning needs.

5. Contribute to ongoing reflection within ECHO and the Charter Secretariat on how to support the scale-up of climate-environment programming through diversified, sustainable funding streams.
