This webinar created a dedicated space for knowledge-sharing on climate and environmental action fragile and conflict affected settings (FCAS) – a common operating context for many Charter Signatories – through:
The webinar was co-convened by the Climate and Environment Charter Secretariat, the Community of Practice on Environment, Climate, and Peace, and is part of the Path to Ottawa event series.
In the discussion, participants pointed to several key gaps holding back progress: limited time, funding, and operational capacity; the need for more reliable data; and a desire for stronger training, capacity-building opportunities, and practical case studies. They also highlighted the importance of flexible and long-term funding—especially for community-led initiatives—and called for more openness about failures to support collective learning. Participants also highlighted a few key enablers that have helped advance climate and environmental programming in FCAS: strong community engagement and local partnerships; good context analysis and conflict-sensitive approaches; integrating climate considerations into core organizational work; useful tools, data, and knowledge resources; and emerging opportunities in climate finance. Several also emphasized the value of peer collaboration and communities of practice like the ECCP.
