Reducing the impact of procurement: Results from lifecycle analyses of key items of the humanitarian sector (Part I)

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Climate Action Accelerator and two departments of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) have joined forces to conduct lifecycle analyses of some of the most relevant items in the humanitarian sector in order to identify levers to reduce the environmental and health impact of items as well as to improve their emission factors. This session will provide participants with the results of 7 of the 13 analysed items, namely: High-thermal blankets, Jerrycans, Plastic buckets, Solar Lamps, Soap bars, Plastic floor mats, and Mattresses.

In an increasingly unpredictable climate, the ability to interpret and apply forecasting information is critical for effective disaster preparedness. Many practitioners, particularly those new to anticipatory action, struggle to navigate the complexities of weather and climate forecasts. This webinar series is designed to bridge that knowledge gap by providing a foundational understanding of forecasting principles, impact-based forecasting approaches, and key considerations for decision-making. By equipping beginners with practical insights and real-world examples, this series aims to enhance their ability to use forecasts effectively, ask the right questions, and take timely anticipatory action to mitigate risks and save lives. The series will start from 16 May and run through 18 June with two different formats:
> Forecasting Fridays: 16 May to 13 June, weekly release of one 7–10-minute forecasting video

Climate-Related Human Mobility in the localization and local implementation of NAPs

Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APCMDRR) 2024, Manila, The Philippines

The APMCDRR is the main platform in Asia and the Pacific to monitor, review and enhance cooperation for the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 at the regional level. Expression of Interest COP29 SHARE Hub side events (ICCAD)

International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) call for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for hosting side events at the SHARE Hub during COP29 has been extended. The new deadline is 28 September 2024. This extension offers additional time for IGOs, NGOs, research institutions, youth, women, indigenous-led organizations, and other stakeholders to submit proposals that align with the SHARE Hub themes of climate resilience, adaptation, just transition, and loss and damage.
The events will be scheduled between 12-21 November 2024 at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Given the limited slots, we encourage you to finalize your submissions as early as possible.
